Day 152 - The great pumpkin race

IT'S probably a bit late in the season to start growing pumpkins.

But given the very hot weather, they should get a good start - and with a bit of luck they might even be ready for Halloween.

Daddy has planted a pumpkin seed in each of four pots.

He has called them Beth, Florence, Edward and Millie.

We will see how each pumpkin cousin grows over the next few weeks.

Day 149 - First family holiday

We have just returned from our first family holiday together, staying in the rolling countryside of the Lincolnshire Wolds.

Millie was very good, despite a three hour car journey which was in all reality too long for her.

Our holiday accommodation was a "mud and stud" thatched cottage down a country lane next to a field of cows.

Nana and Papa came to visit, and so did cousins Beth and Florence.

We also visited them, and had a very relaxing time - once mummy and daddy got used to the idea that they couldn't do very much with a five-month-old baby in tow.

Millie herself is in fine fettle.

She weighs more than 10lbs now and is smiling more and more.

She gurgles and blows lots of bubbles, which may indicate that she will be an early talker.

Her character is developing, and although she smiles, she has a quick temper.

This is particularly evident when Millie has to sit in her car seat, to which she has taken a big dislike.

Quickly bored, she soon starts to emit howls of protest - until she cries herself to sleep or the journey ends.

Day 136 - Long, hot summer

HOT weather, with temperatures in the thirties, means it's difficult for Millie to sleep.

But she's doing well, is smiling a lot more, and now weighs 4.26kg, which is 9lbs 7 1/2oz.

If the weather cools, she'll soon start sleeping through the night.

After seeing England beat Equador 1-0, Millie was allowed to watch the England-Portugal match too.

Even her World Cup T-shirt couldn't inspire a win.

Never mind - it's less than a week now until we go on holiday - something we're all looking forward to.

This will be our first holiday as a family together, and we are going for a week in the Lincolnshire Wolds.

It might not be far, but the warm weather means it will probably be as hot as southern Italy.

In the meantime, here's a picture of daddy taken by Uncle Carl when they went to see the cricket at Trent Bridge earlier this summer.

It just goes to show, even when you're not with Millie in person, she's still with you!
